Key Word Reservation
Your ChamberMaster/MemberZone system integrates with a top SMS provider. Texts sent to (218) 229-8880 starting with "notify," or your custom keyword, are logged to your account by checking the first 1 or 2 words. Custom keywords match directly; shared keywords are recognized after "notify."
Shared vs. Custom Keyword:
For example, if your organization is Green Acres Business Association:
- Shared keyword: Subscribers text notify greenacres to (218) 229-8880.
- Custom keyword: Subscribers text greenacres to (218) 229-8880.
Custom keywords are shorter, reducing errors and increasing subscriptions, especially in ads. You can switch between custom and shared keywords anytime, using custom keywords initially to grow your subscriber base.
- Click Communications in the left-hand navigation panel.
- Click SmartText in the Other Communication Tools section. Note: You will note on the Dashboard a message stating Your account isn't configured for SmartText, the integrated text messaging platform. Get started via Setup.
- Click the Setup tab.
- Read the Overview and the Differences between Shared and Custom Keywords information.
-
- Click the Shared Keyword (No Charge) radio button OR
- Click the Custom Keyword ($25/mo. will be added to my subscription) radio button
- Enter your keyword (this is required regardless of Shared or Custom selection).
- Click Check Availability to ensure your keyword is not already in use.
- Click Reserve and Enable. The Current Keywords section will populate with your unique SmartText information.
You can now advertise your text service and start receiving subscriptions! For example, ask subscribers to text "notify training" to (218) 229-8880 to join your generic list called Subscribers without Specific Groups. They will receive a confirmation message with unsubscribe instructions.
To create specific subscriber lists (like event or board member groups), set up groups and have subscribers opt in accordingly. See Create Subscriber Groups for SmartText for details. It's best to create these groups before advertising so subscribers are correctly assigned.
Note: Subscribers cannot be moved between groups.
